No one is meant to be an island in this world. Whether you are working on a project or you are walking on the Christian pathway, you need someone to help you achieve your goal or to reach your destination. Life is a continuous battle against your arch-enemy, the devil. He wants you to fall; he wants you to fall in your life endeavours and in your Christian faith. God’s word says, “…your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.” (1 Peter 5: 8). Satan engineers sin, failure, calamity, sickness, family problems and a variety of negative circumstances to bring discouragement, disappointment, sorrow, pain and pangs, grief and torment. You need help of a friend whose strength and might is infinity greater than the power of your formidable foe.
That friend is Jesus. He is a friend of inestimable value. His love is incomparable. He wants to be closer to you than your earthly father, mother, brother; husband or earthly friend can ever be. He wants to save you from sin, deliver you from every form of oppression and affliction. He wants to protect you from danger, calamity and every negative circumstance and provide for all your needs “according to His riches in glory” (Philippians 4: 19). He is a Friend that comes in when the whole world has gone out. What a Friend we have in Jesus who knows our every weakness!
To demonstrate His love for you, Jesus left His glory in Heaven and the worship of His holy angels. He came “to seek and to save that which was lost” (Luke 19: 10) and to die on the cross of Calvary for you. The Bible says “…without shedding of blood there is no remission.” (Hebrews 9: 22). “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” (John 15: 13). “Then said the Jews, Behold how he (Jesus) loved him (Lazarus)!” (John 11:36). And that “him” can be you too.
To enjoy the friendship of Jesus Christ, you need to quit unprofitable friendship with the world. You must dissociate yourself from worldly vanities, indulgence, immorality and perversions. “Love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world–the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life–is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.” (1 John 2: 15-17).
You may put a façade of success before the people by socializing, and having fun while, in private, you are overwhelmed by the pains and pangs of defeat and emptiness. The Scripture says, “Even in laughter the heart may sorrow, and the end of mirth may be grief.” (Proverbs 14: 13). How accurate, how true!
No matter how separated you are from that matchless Friend, if you will repent of all your sins today and embrace Him as your Lord and Saviour, you will begin to experience the reassuring peace, unending victory and abundant life that come from Him. “…as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name… Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (John 1:12; 2 Corinthians 5: 17).
Take the step now, go on your knees and confess your sins to God in genuine repentance, He will cleanse, forgive and make you a new creature. You will forever be grateful to God now and in eternity that you made Christ your faithful Friend. Shalom!
